Pere Vilà i Barceló is known for his introspective style and narrative that combines sensitivity with a deep exploration of his characters, always paying attention to the social impact of his films.
He began his screenwriting training at the Centro Calassanç in Barcelona (later ESCAC). His project Diagnòstic (2008) received the New York Film Academy's Best Screenplay Award.
In 2007, he made his feature film debut with Pas a Nivell, an austere and contemplative film that was selected for several prestigious international festivals, such as the Gijón Film Festival, the Rotterdam International Film Festival, the Lisbon International Independent Film Festival, the San Sebastian International Film Festival, and the BFI London. His second film, a French co-production, The Stoning of Saint Stephen (2012), starring Lou Castel and Luis Rego, was screened at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and the BFI London. It also won the FIPRESCI Award at the Seminci in Valladolid.
In 2014, he released La fossa, starring Josep M. Domènech, Lluís Homar, and Emma Vilarasau, which was screened at the Seville European Film Festival, the Las Palmas Film Festival, and the D’A.
Beyond the silver screen, Pere Vilà has dabbled in writing in various forms, ranging from commissioned screenplays and script consulting to theatrical collaborations and award-winning literary projects. In 2010, he published Qui té por (Who Is Through It), and in 2015, the novel La llum a través del vitrall (The Light Through the Glass).
