On the night of January 31, 1945, in the town of Palmnicken in East Prussia (now the settlement of Yantarny, Kaliningrad Region, Russia), Nazis shot on the seashore about 3,000 prisoners of the Stutthof concentration camp, mostly women and teenage girls. The advancing Soviet troops reached the execution site just one day after the execution.

When the mother of a ten-year-old Sonya and the father of an eleven-year-old Lena decide to marry, two completely different girls become sisters. Now they have to share the same room, one class and friends, and most importantly, constantly fight for the attention of their parents. Both of them dream of getting rid of another "sister" and get their lives back. Lena and Sonya announce a temporary truce to break up the parents and disrupt the wedding...

Each story has its name, and according to these names, newsreel of the last century were found, there is no concept that unites the material, only that all of it is picked from archived chronicles. Magically, the music and the image make a story of a boy who hears and sees only three words “Why do you dream" which gave the name to the film.

Eight-year-old boy Mitya arrives with his father in Feodosia to his grandfather.  Dad is going to sell the family house to take grandfather with him.  Mitya wants to help grandfather.  With the help of a magic book he finds himself in the land of Dreams.  If Mitya helps the inhabitants of the country regain the lost happiness, then he will be able to reach out to his father’s heart.  But for this it is necessary not only to defeat the Sorceress in a fairy tale, but also be able to resist the company of teenagers in real life.
