Life
The film tells about a young man who, solving his problems, finds himself in a string of events and people whose meanings of life form a kind of kaleidoscope.
The workplace of the protagonist Arman determines the value system of people: all the precious memories of humanity are reproduced there: weddings, “love stories”, births of children, corporate holidays and documentaries about ancestors. With the removal of this material, Arman becomes an indirect “murder of all Life, all Being” However, on the other hand, the fact that this kind of video is almost never watched some time after recording means the transience and fragility of life and our values.
The characters that Armand meets become his companions, creating a kind of kaleidoscope of life. Each of them represents in some way a piece of truth - as in Rumi's metaphor "truth is like pieces of a broken mirror".
Filming lasted for 3 years in Almaty, South Kazakhstan region, Aktau and Pattaya (Thailand). The film is 3 hours long.
The idea and story for this film came to me when I was preparing to shoot my first film exactly ten years ago. Despite the difficulties that the hero gets into, I always found this story filled with the love of life.
Yerkebulan Tasynov played the main role in the film. He was approved for this role at the level of writing a treatment. The first draft of the script was written by Emir Baigazin in residence in Los Angeles at the Golden Globe and Film Independent, the grant for which was received after winning the Venice Film Festival (“Best Director” section “Horizons”) in 2018 for the film “The River”. Filming for Life began in the fall of 2019. The director of photography was Emir Baigazin himself. The film "Life" was filmed by "Emir Baigazin Production" by order of the Ministry of Culture and Sports with the support of NJSC "SCPC".
